We are all taught that we should take care of everyone else and put ourselves last – its meek after all and the ‘meek shall inherit the earth’. On flights we are told to put on our own oxygen masks before that of a child yet our instincts as parent is to see to the child first.

It seems very conflicting and confusing but perhaps we can look at putting ourselves first from a different perspective.

Have your heard it said ‘First, remove the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye’?

When you see something that bothers you in the world choose where to put your energy.

You could look at what is going on in the world and complain to your friends or even just spend time thinking it over. Or you could see this as an opportunity for growth. Where am I discriminating in my life? Do I treat everyone equally regardless of age, sex, religion, ability, or colour of their skin? Do you see yourself as equal to everyone else on the planet?

We are all aspects of Source, God, The Creator, The All That Is.

We can see the individuality in people, their individual tastes, their personality but our responsibility is first and foremost to look after our own energy.

You cannot make someone change by suffering yourself. You can lead by example. Look after your own energy and be a beacon of light for others to follow.
